Eric Lesdema

Eric Lesdema is a French-Creole artist, photographer and filmmaker, who grew up between Paris and Martinique. From 1992-1995 Lesdema studied Photography at Brighton University and has lived and worked in the UK ever since.

In 1997 Lesdema’s body of work ‘Fortunes of War’ was awarded the UN Nikon Photography World Prize. First published as an Autograph Artist Monograph, an extended edit was subsequently published as part of Intellect’s Critical Photography series. In the same year Lesdema set up one of the UK’s first Media Arts Foundation courses which, akin to his own practice, placed an emphasis on collapsing traditional boundaries and cultural enclosures, operating between photography and installation, art and craft, aesthetics and utility.

Lesdema has exhibited nationally and internationally including at The Photographers Gallery, Standpoint Gallery and The Lux, London; Towner Gallery, Eastbourne; Street Level, Glasgow; Blue Sky, Oregon, and CAS, Osaka Japan. His work is held in public collections including the Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds. Awards span an International Fellowship from the British Council and Arts Council in 2002, and Arts Council Wales’ Future Wales Fellowship in 2024.
