Julie Umerle

Julie Umerle is an award-winning contemporary painter based in London. Her practice is an investigation of materials and the perception of the image. Working on either canvas or paper, she explores the materiality of paint and the processes of abstract painting. She works in open-ended series, examining similarity, repetition, and difference within each group.

Born in Connecticut, USA, Umerle moved to London as a young child. She studied fine art at Falmouth University, Cornwall and Parsons The New School for Design in New York.

Umerle’s paintings have been exhibited both in the UK and internationally and her work is in public and private collections worldwide. Her publication Art, Life and Everything launched in September 2019.
