Prunella Clough was an important British painter, draughtsman and printmaker. She studied at Chelsea School of Art until the outbreak of World War II and then Camberwell School of Art where she was taught by Victor Pasmore.

Clough’s early work depicts the urban and industrial landscapes of England in a narrow, almost monochromatic tonal range. Towards the end of her life she became regarded largely as an abstractionist, but her work always retained a figurative base.

Clough’s work has appeared in numerous exhibitions and in 1999 she was awarded the Jerwood Prize for Painting.
