Ryan Gander Bio
Ryan Gander RA OBE, was born in 1976 in Chester, UK, and studied at Manchester Metropolitan University, and then in the Netherlands at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam, and the Jan van Eyck Akademie, Maastricht. His practice, which spans a wide range of mediums including sculpture, film, writing, graphic design, installation and performance, connects the everyday with the esoteric, whilst questioning standardly received ideas about language, knowledge and understanding. Viewers are encouraged to make their own associations and invent their own narratives as they decode the complex propositions presented by the artist.
Ryan Gander has exhibited widely nationally and internationally including at Museo Helga se Alvear, Caćeres, Spain (2024); Ishikawa Cultural Foundation, Okayama, Japan (2023); Annet Gelink, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2023); East Gallery at NUA, Norwich, UK (2022); Space K, Seoul, South Korea (2021); Kunsthalle Bern, Switzerland (2019); 21st Biennale of Sydney, Australia (2018), TARO NASU, Tokyo, Japan (2018); and Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester, UK (2014).
Ryan Gander lives and works in Suffolk, UK, and is represented by Lisson Gallery.
