Tony Cragg is one of the world’s foremost sculptors. Practising since the 1970s, his work forensically examines the relations between people and the material world. He uses a broad spectrum of materials including found objects, cast bronze, stone, wood, plastic consumer goods and rubbish.

The worlds of science and natural history are a major influence on his work. Before entering the art profession, he worked as a lab technician researching rubber. This experience had a profound impact on his approach to material in art. Underpinning Tony Cragg’s work is his interest in how material and material forms affect and form our ideas and emotions.

Tony Cragg has had numerous solo exhibitions including at CAFA Museum, Beijing; Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh; and Tate Liverpool. In 1988, he represented Britain at the 53rd Venice Biennale and in the same year he was awarded the Turner Prize. He was elected a Royal Academician in 1994 and was made a CBE in 2003.
